Course Title: Figma 101: An Introductory Workshop
on UX Design for Students
I. Details
of the event/activity
On March 14, 2024, I had the
opportunity to participate in a highly informative webinar organized by the
Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). The event,
titled "Figma 101: An Introductory Workshop on UX Design for
Students," was part of the Tech4ED DTC – Initiative – TechTalks series and
was held via the Zoom platform.
This engaging workshop was designed
specifically for students and aimed to provide a comprehensive introduction to
User Experience (UX) design using Figma, a popular design tool in the industry.
The session began with an overview of the basics of UX design, highlighting the
importance of user-centered design principles and how they contribute to
creating effective and intuitive digital experiences.

Reflections on the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)
Reflecting on the "Figma
101" webinar on March 14, 2024, I gained crucial insights into UX design.
The session emphasized user-centered design, teaching us to focus on user needs
for intuitive products. I learned Figma basics like creating frames and layers,
and the importance of wireframing and prototyping.
The webinar highlighted Figma's
collaborative features for real-time feedback and teamwork and stressed the
iterative nature of design. Building a strong UX portfolio was also discussed.
Overall, the webinar provided a solid foundation in UX design principles and
practical Figma skills.
III.
Reflections on possibilities of implementing some of the webinar input on a
practical level (practical application of learning)
I can see
numerous opportunities to practically apply what I learned. One of my first
steps will be to incorporate a user-centered design approach into my projects,
ensuring that every design decision is informed by user research and feedback.
This involves creating detailed wireframes and prototypes using Figma to
visualize user journeys and identify any usability issues early in the process.
The
collaborative features of Figma will also prove invaluable for teamwork. By
leveraging these features, I can easily share designs with team members,
receive real-time feedback, and make updates instantly, enhancing our
collaborative efficiency. Additionally, I will implement best practices such as
maintaining design consistency and utilizing grids for alignment to improve the
overall quality and professionalism of my work.
IV. Positive Feedback (on the event organization)
The webinar was exceptionally
well-organized, making for an engaging and educational experience. The event's
structure was clear and well-paced, allowing participants to easily follow
along and absorb the material. A standout aspect was the involvement of student
instructors who taught us how to use Figma. These instructors were not only
knowledgeable but also very friendly and approachable, which made learning the
tool more enjoyable and relatable. Their ability to explain complex concepts in
an understandable manner and provide real-time assistance greatly enhanced the
learning experience. Overall, the organization of the event, combined with the
expertise and friendliness of the student instructors, made the webinar a
valuable and positive experience.

Suggestions for improvements to be made/considered for future activities
While the "Figma 101"
webinar was highly informative and well-organized, I have a few suggestions for
future activities to enhance the learning experience. Firstly, extending the
duration of the webinar would be beneficial. More time would allow for a deeper
exploration of Figma's features and more comprehensive coverage of UX design
principles.
Additionally, incorporating more live
demonstrations on using Figma would be incredibly helpful. Seeing more
real-time examples and step-by-step guides would reinforce learning and give
participants a clearer understanding of how to apply the tools and techniques
discussed. These improvements would make an already excellent webinar even more
valuable for participants.
