Course Title: Character
Development: The Missing Piece in AI Education
I.
Details of the event/activity
On December 16, 2023, I
attended this really interesting webinar hosted by Institut Pendidikan Guru
Kampus Pendidikan Teknik Nilai on Zoom. They dived into a topic I hadn't
thought much about: "Character Development: The Missing Piece in AI
Education." The speakers, all women from different countries, made it even
more fascinating. They talked about what makes robots, humans, and machines
unique and highlighted the importance of character development in AI education.
What
stood out was the diverse perspectives the speakers brought to the table. It
wasn't just a lecture; it was like a conversation. We got to discuss and
understand the roles of machines, humans, and robots better. It was eye-opening
to see how these aspects play into the broader landscape of artificial
intelligence and its impact on education.

Reflections on the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)
Reflecting on this webinar, I find myself contemplating the intricacies of "Character Development: The Missing Piece in AI Education." The discussion about the distinctions between robots, humans, and machines prompted me to rethink how we perceive these entities in the context of education.
The
emphasis on character development struck a chord, making me realize its
often-overlooked role in the realm of artificial intelligence. It made me
ponder how nurturing qualities like empathy, ethics, and emotional intelligence
in AI systems could significantly impact their interaction with humans.
III.
Reflections on possibilities of implementing some of the webinar input on a
practical level (practical application of learning)
The practical learnings
from this webinar encompass the application of character development in
artificial intelligence education, strategies for fostering qualities like
empathy and ethics in AI systems, understanding the distinctions between
robots, humans, and machines for enhanced decision-making, incorporating global
perspectives into AI education, actively engaging in discussions about the
evolving roles of technology, honing critical thinking skills for ethical
considerations, and improving communication skills to convey complex concepts
in both professional and educational settings. These insights provide a
tangible foundation for participants to apply in real-world scenarios,
contributing to a more ethically informed and holistic approach to the
development and integration of artificial intelligence.
IV.
Positive Feedback (on the event organization)
My positive feedback on
this is that even females can really do understand the world of the IT industry,
given the fact that some people underestimate men to women in terms of this
topic but, all in all... it was a nice and beautiful webinar. Their voice is
very clear and they are very lively, especially Ms. Lim.
V. Suggestions for improvements to be
made/considered for future activities
I'd
like to offer a suggestion—I really wish they could extend the webinar
duration. The session was only 45 minutes long, and both I and the other
participants were left wanting more. There's so much more we could learn and see
through additional information and demonstrations during the webinar.
