Course Title: Optimizing your Infrastructure with Kubernetes
I. Details of the event/activity
The webinar conducted by the Team DigitalOcean collaborated with the Chairman of the Pampanga Chamber ICT Committee solely focused on Kubernetes and other VMs and containers. Central to the discussion is cloud computing, which serves as an instrumental catalyst for enabling developers to conceive and construct applications with the potential to bring about profound global transformations.
It was held on September 28, 2023, through the Zoom platform. Chair Macky Nicdao was one of the keynote speakers.
II. Reflections on the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)
What I learned from this webinar is that the majority of cloud providers are not tailored to the needs of startups and small to medium-sized businesses. Instead, they are designed with a focus on enterprise requirements, characterized by complexity, and often cost-prohibitive when scaled. The webinar also discussed what is VM or Virtual Machine and how it differentiates from containers, I already knew the basics of a virtual machine but as I listened to this webinar there were things that I did not know yet.
Just like Kubernetes, this platform is an open-source container orchestration system that's all about automating the deployment, scaling, and management of software. It was designed by Google and is now in the capable hands of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation.
III. Reflections on possibilities of implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level (practical application of learning)
This webinar will be helpful for me in the future, as an IT student. This gave me prior knowledge as to what tools the IT company is currently using. The webinar also featured HACKTHEBOX which will help me interact with the cyber world safely and can make training and exercises fun. This webinar helped me think of the path that I can take in the future after I graduate.
IV. Positive Feedback (on the event organization)
The webinar's flow and discussion were really simple, short, and not information-overloaded. They use simple words so that everyone can understand it. They also answered questions in the Zoom comment box. Other standby speakers were also attentive, friendly, and active in the comment box as they made the participants comfortable in asking questions. The demonstration of the Kubernetes was also simple but understandable, thanks to Mr. Akshit Pratiush one of the DigitalOcean team. All in all, the webinar was good but sadly, it was short and many participants wanted more.
V. Suggestions for improvements to be made/considered for future activities
There are a few improvements that I would like to address in this webinar, and that is the audio of the speakers. Some of the Speakers' audio was audible but some weren't. It was really hard to understand given the fact that the organizers and speakers are not Filipino.
